IGO Opposes a Gun Bill?

This post is a prime example of IGO tactics. They continually twist the truth to elicit fear. Specifically, IGO is trying to make you think that that SF427 creates a new centralized repository for politicians (FALSE) and that it will contain a list of guns (FALSE). IGO then uses NY and CT references to play on your fears (NY and CT did try to do *gun* registry).

"Some would have you believe that there is no centralized gun database being created with the revised version of the omnibus bill. We cut and pasted it above for your convenience. Read the above very closely and ask yourself if you support giving the politicians in Des Moines a list of guns and gun owners? You brothers and sister in NY and CT are begging you to not do this, they 'never thought it could happen them' either." -- IGO

TRUTH:
There is NO NEW centralized repository and definitely no list of guns. SF427 just allows for the existing repository to be searchable so law enforcement can validate permits across the state.
Here is the CURRENT Iowa Law as written:

724.23 Records kept by commissioner. The commissioner of public safety shall maintain a permanent record of all valid permits to carry weapons and of current permit revocations. Here is the SF427 as Amended by H1117 (which allows for Law Enforcement validation of permits): 724.23 Records kept by commissioner and issuing officers. 1.a. The commissioner of public safety shall maintain a permanent record of all valid permits to carry weapons and of current permit revocations. b. The permanent record shall be kept in a searchable database that is accessible on a statewide basis for the circumstances described in subsection 2, paragraph “b” , “c” , “d” , or “e” .
